Would you eat cod sperm, rotted shark or a live baby eel? Members of New York eating club The Gastronauts would.
The club, which has about 400 members, began four years ago when founders Curtiss Callleo and Ben Pauker decided they wanted to meet with like-minded eaters.
The club is made up of friends, strangers and anybody who is ‘game’ enough to try literally anything. The club has become so popular it now has a waiting list.
Machismo eating, as it is known, gained notoriety after diners posted clips of themselves eating food aimed to shock.
In the US, the consumption of live lobster and octopus has already proved problematic as lawyers from PETA US have alerted NYC district attorneys in a bid to stop two New York restaurants serving live octopuses.
